In April 2009, the SDDP working group under the lead of Prof. Leif Bjelm from the Department of Engineering Geology at Lund University applied for a research infrastructure grant to Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet - VR). This infrastructure, a mobile truck-mounted drillrig that can reach depth of 2500 m and more, has been granted recently to the delight of the Swedish scientific drilling community. The amount of the grant is confidential as the purchase will take place under open competition. More information about SDDP and the envisaged infrastructure is available in the SDDP Science & Technology Plan. You may also download a: PDF-file of the application to the Swedish Research Council (all sensitive information removed).
SDDP projects have also been successful in this year's call for project funding by VR. The projects "Caledonian Orogeny in the Scandinavian Caledonides" and "Concentric impact structures in the Palaeozoic" were awarded funds for site investigations. The work is anticipated to start during 2010.
